Logos
Insadong, Seoul
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I present this solo exhibition, my first in thirty-five years. During years devoted to missionary work, painting was largely set aside, yet the canvas never fully released its hold on me. Returning to the studio after such a long absence, I find that traces of my earliest work still remain, becoming a path that invites me to walk it once again.
The title of this exhibition, Logos, is drawn from the opening chapter of the Gospel of John, where Logos is another name for Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Word made flesh. To know Him and walk with Him is the artist’s calling; to praise and worship Him is the very essence of life. Near the completion of my graduate studies, I first came to recognize that this was also the true nature of painting itself. Through the life of the artist and through the act of painting, I have been continually granted the grace of encountering Christ.
